Intro

Slender is a very, very difficult game to complete and I have seen few guides that go into detail about how to go about getting all 8 pages successfully. I’ve completed the game a few times on night and daytime modes, so here is my guide to help you complete Slender!

Note – This is all information updated to version 0.9.6.

Slender

Beginners notes. – Slender is a free horror game for PC and Mac platforms where the “Slenderman” is pursuing you through the woods. You have only a torch on you with limited life. The object of the game is to collect all 8 pages on different landmarks throughout the woods. The more pages you collect, the quicker the Slenderman will try to catch you.

There are 10 different landmarks in Slender. These are: Grain Silo, Tree, Bathroom, Oil Canisters, Truck and Container, Tanker, Tunnel, Cutted Woods, Cross Walls and Rocks. 2 of the 10 landmarks will be a ‘dud’ which will not have a page.

Use the W,A, S and D keys to move and use the left Shift key to sprint. Use the mouse to look around.

Slender

If no pages are found within 5 minutes then the first page music will be triggered. If no pages are found within 13 minutes then the third page music will be triggered.

The torch you are given will last for about 15 minutes and 40 seconds so try not to waste too much time. Turning off the torch will help with its battery life.

If you look at the slenderman from close range, it will signal the ‘shock’ music, which gives you an adrenaline boost for around 10 seconds in order to escape from the Slenderman. Music will change on pages 1, 3, 5, and 7.

Completing the game unlocks Daytime Mode and Marble Hornets mode (based on a YouTube series on the Slenderman). Once you beat Daytime Mode and Marble Hornets mode, you unlock $20 mode. In this mode if the player sees Slenderman a song called Gimme 20 Dollars by American rap artist Ron Browz starts playing. This is a reference to a fan originated meme about the Slenderman.

Now for the Guide.

1. Learn the map! – If you’re serious about completing this game then you (unless you get really lucky) will have to learn the map and know where exactly all the landmarks are. Here is a link to probably the most accurate map:

2. Don’t panic! – I know this sounds crazy when playing a game like this, but the Slenderman is almost harmless until page 5. The only way he is going to get you is if you stop for a considerable amount of time, stare at him for too long so he grabs you with his tentacles or walk straight into him.

3. Always start with the Grain Silo first and then go straight to Tree. – This seems to be the best tactic as they’re both really close to the spawn point and sometimes they will both be duds, which gives you a lot more freedom on picking your route round.

4. Check all the Bathroom rooms! – There are 4 separate rooms in the Bathroom landmark. 3 of the rooms will have a page on the wall and one with a page on the wooden chair. Make sure you know the way to all of them because a page could be in any one of the rooms. Don’t leave until you have checked all 4.

5. Always keep on the move after page 5. – Once the new music kicks in, he’s angry! He WILL drag you in from behind with his tentacles so make sure you know exactly where he is and use the “shock” to your advantage.

6. Learn energy management. – A lot of people get to page 5/6 and say they run out of breath. This is usually because people will sprint pointlessly after page 4/5 without even knowing where the Slenderman is. The new patch added a slightly new sprinting system. When you press and release the sprint button, it takes 1 second before the stamina starts to regenerate. You can get away with not really using sprint until page 5. So make sure to be patient and run in very short bursts (1-2 seconds) until then. Once you get to page 5 keep turning around quickly just to know where he is. If he shocks you that’s good! Turn around and use it in the same way you would use sprint (short bursts). Once you get to page 6 try and know where he is ALL the time. Use trees and block his view of you so you can walk and regain energy. There is no way you are going to get 8 pages unless you have some sprint left.

7. The Slenderman WILL teleport after page 6. – If you’ve ever wondered what that glitchy sound and fuzzy screen that pops up now and again is, that is the Slenderman using his teleport. This was added in a recent patch to stop people from easily blocking him behind trees on the last pages. The more you try to block him, the more he will try to teleport, and sometimes it can be right next to you to try and catch you off guard. So as soon as he teleports, try and get some object or tree blocking his view.

8. The Slenderman WILL be pursuing you after page 1. – Although at times he may be hard to spot on page 1, he will be around somewhere so again, don’t panic. Keep checking back to see where he is because if you leave it too late to look at him, he will capture you far easier. If you see static on your screen then you are looking straight in his direction. Locate him and adjust your route. Remember the further you are, the safer it is to look.

9. Avoid blind corners. – After about page 3 the shock effect can really make you jump after spotting him round a blind corner (e.g. Bathrooms) so try to take the corner wide and slowly.

10. If you spot him in Bathroom and there is no way out it isn’t always game over! – If he is in one of the corridors then sometimes you can get away with it, hide in the room and keep popping your head out. He will disappear eventually. Of course this can drain a lot of your battery life, so unless you have the guts to turn off your torch in this time, wait for a couple of minutes and if he’s still there then just restart.

11. Recommended route. – Completing Slender could come down to a completely random route you have never taken before but it’s mainly just trial and error. Here is the route that I have had most success with.

Grain Silo, Tree, Truck and Container, Tanker, Tunnel, Cross Walls, Rocks, Oil Canisters and Bathroom. Now you may be asking to yourself, “Bathroom last? This guy must be mad!” but actually it’s one of the best ways. The amount of distance between Rocks, Oil Canisters and Bathroom isn’t much at all and this can be crucial in terms of energy management. One last thing I’d say about this route is if Grain Silo or Tree are duds (or rarely both) take a quick detour to Bathroom after Truck and Container just to see what room the page is in. This can save a lot of frantic panicking on 7 pages wondering where that game completing page is! This method has worked for me and hopefully will for you.

Common Myths busted.

A few guides and tips have been posted online in older patches, so here are a few of the old facts from past versions that are now untrue.

Myth 1. – If there is no page in Tunnel then there will be a page on Tanker and vise versa. This is FALSE. Ever since the new patches this has been changed, there can now be pages on both.

Myth 2. – Some landmarks guarantee a page. This is FALSE. New updates made sure that any landmark can be a ‘dud’.

Myth 3. – The Slenderman can’t enter the tunnel. This is FALSE. He is now more than capable of teleporting into the tunnel or following you into it. So don’t think you’re safe once in there.

Video Example.

Here is a perfect example of YouTuber FSKLink executing the route I recommended to go and the tactics I have explained above.
